The Indians were impressed enough by Austin Kearns second half and with the batch of free agent outfields slowly being depleted, the team decided to bring back Kearns for one more year. The once top flight prospect has bounced around the past few years and he signed on with the Indians last year with a minor league deal but after his season in 2010, he’s signed for big league money.
Kearns will make $1.3 million and his role with the team will depend on how soon Grady Sizemore comes back from his surgery. Kearns will be the fourth outfielder but being the only right fielder, he’ll get plenty of time in the lineup especially against lefties. If Sizemore isn’t ready, he’ll most likely be the starting left fielder.
