The Indians were one of the big surprises at the trade deadline. Being buyers for the first time in a few years, the Indians got the blue chip on the trade market by picking up Ubaldo Jimenez. They had to give up some prospects but I like the deal.
Jimenez is having an off year, but this is a good year who’s already shown he has Cy Young potential. He’s still striking out close to a batter an inning, he’s just giving up more hits. The big thing will be if he can ever get his walks down.
The Indians gave up four guys. Alex White, Joe Gardner, Matt McBride, a player to be named later. The PTBNL is expected to be Drew Pomeranz. So they’re giving up their top draft picks from 2009 and 2010 and those are their two top pitching prospects but still, by getting Jimenez, we’re getting a known quantity. Now we just have to get back to winning and take back first place in the AL Central.
