Man that snow was a mess. It’s past us now and the Indians did a good job of just putting it behind them and getting down to business. On Tuesday, a well rested C.C. Sabthia had a nice start even though the pen put a little bit of a scare into Indians fans. He gave up three runs (one earned) on tens hits and two walks with seven strikeouts and he’s now 2-0. Casey Blake and Kelly Shoppach (Victor Martinez’s replacement for the time being) both hit homeruns and Andy Marte had two hits and three RBIs in the 7-6 win.
In yesterday’s game, the Indians’ hitters never could get on track. They managed just four hits and the lone run came on a solo homerun by Jhonny Peralta. Jack Westbrook took the loss in a decent outing. He gave up three runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in six innings. The final in this one was 4-1.
Then this afternoon, the Indians won the rubber game. Down 2-1 in the eight, Travis Hafner hit a huge three run shot to give the Indians a 4-2 win. Grady Sizemore hit a solo homerun to account for the other run and while Jeremy Sowers had a nice start but didn’t get a decision, he at least didn’t take a loss. Joe Borowski closed it out and he picked up save number three.
Now, over a week and a half after the season started, the Indians hope to finally play their first game in Cleveland with the White Sox coming to town for three. This is a pretty big series even though it’s early. Both the Indians and the White Sox are nipping at the heels of the Tigers and the Twins and whoever wins will have a leg up early.
