Indians Lose Home Opener But Win Series Against White Sox

by @ 6:05 pm. Filed under 2007 Indians

The Indians won the final two games in a three game series with the White Sox and they now sit atop the AL Central with a 6-3 record.  Things didn’t get off to a good start and while the Indians finally got around to playing their first true home game, the end result was a 6-4 loss.  Fausto Carmona was hit hard and he gave up all six runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.  Ryan Garko was the hitting star and he went four for five with two runs.

Then Paul Byrd of all pitchers got the Indians on track.  He threw six shutout innings and four relievers combined to complete the shutout.  Ryan Garko and Josh Barfield both hit homeruns and they both had two hits.  Jason Michaels also had a nice game with a triple, a single, a run and an RBI.

The Indians won the rubber game today despite being held to just one hit.  Grady Sizemore doubled to lead off the game and he later scored on a ground out and then he drew a bases loaded walk as he was involved in both Indians’ runs.  C.C. Sabathia struck out ten and he improved to 3-0 with eight innings of five hit ball.

The Tribe now gets a day off while they head to Yankee Stadium to take on the Yankees.  Jake Westbrook has his hands full against a tough Yankees lineup and I’m not sure who the Indians will be facing with all of the injuries the Yankees have sustained.  Regardless, it should be a great series.
