The Indians are now just one win away from going to their first World Series since 1997 as they got some solid pitching from Paul Byrd and one big inning from their hitters. A seven run fifth inning was the difference and it featured a solo homer by Casey Blake that put the Indians on the board as well as a three run blast by Jhonny Peralta that turned out to be the difference in the ball game.
Right after the seven run fifth inning, the Red Sox finally got to Paul Byrd. He gave up back to back to homers to Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz before Lewis came in and gave up a third consecutive homerun to Manny Ramirez. That was the extent of the Red Sox scoring and outside of the back to back to back blasts, the Red Sox managed just five hits off of the three Indians pitchers.
For Peralta, it was his second homer of the series and he also doubled in the game. Casey Blake was the other Indians hitter with a pair of hits and he ended up singling home the seventh run in the inning as the Indians hit around.
The Indians can wrap things up on Thursday. It’ll be C.C. Sabathia going up against Josh Beckett. Hopefully the Indians can get to Beckett a bit better then they did in game one. Still, the Indians have three chances but it sure would be nice to wrap things up here at home tomorrow.
