While I’m not expecting 12 runs every time out for the Indians, this is the kind of game I expecting. A lot of offense and some pitching that won’t burn us. And offense there was today as the Indians jumped all over Jose Contreras. By the end of the third inning, the Indians had 11 runs and what a way to ruin the White Sox home opener.
Grady Sizemore, Trot Nixon and Travis Hafner each scored three runs while Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta each drove in three. Trot Nixon led the way with three hits and four other Indians had two hits.
C.C. Sabathia was good but not great but he picked up the win. He gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings of work. Joe Borowski was hit hard in the ninth and he gave up two meaningless runs.
Jake Westbrook takes the mound on Wednesday. He’ll face Jon Garland in another afternoon game.
