Indians Take Commanding 2-0 Lead With Eleven Inning Win Over Yankees

by @ 5:40 pm. Filed under 2007 Indians

Just one more win and the Indians are headed to the ALCS and what a game tonight.  Fausto Carmona was nothing short of incredible.  He pitched the equivalent of a complete game and he held the Yankees to just a single run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  The one blemish against him was a solo homer in the top of the third by Melky Cabrera.

The Indians didn’t get on the board until the eighth inning and even the run didn’t score on a hit.  Grady Sizemore drew a walk them moved to second on a wild pitch.  He was bunted to third and then he scored on another wild pitch by Joba Chamberlain.  Then nobody scored until the eleventh.  Kenny Lofton drew a walk and he moved to second on Franklin Gutierrez’s single.  Casey Blake moved both runners over and Grady Sizemore was given a free pass.  Asdrubal Cabrera then popped out the Yankees could have gotten out of the inning unscathed but Travis Hafner came up huge with an RBI single to right field to win it for the Indians.

Rafael Perez picked up the win and he was just as solid as Carmona.  He didn’t allow a single base runner in two innings.  Tomorrow is a travel day and then Sunday the Indians can try to lock things up.  It’ll be Jake Westbrook against the venerable Roger Clemens.
